ABOUT ME

I believe that writing is art. Like all art, it’s an expression of our deepest truths, our creative minds, and often our dreams. Whether you’re working on a picture book, a fantasy epic, or the next great American novel, I want to identify the core of your work and help you express it to its fullest, while keeping you encouraged and confident about your art.

I’m not just an editor with a proverbial red pen—I’m a writer myself, and a book agent. With empathy for the creative process and an insider’s understanding of the publishing world, I help fellow writers achieve their vision for their stories. My approach is always tailored to your goals, whether that’s salvaging a stuck draft, tightening a novel scene by scene, preparing to query agents, or getting feedback on your first picture book.

I originally trained as an attorney, but I’ve been in the literary world for over a decade, enjoying creating narratives less constrained by reality. As a writer I loved learning about the craft, and when I found Seattle’s vibrant literary community I discovered that supporting others’ writing journeys was just as fun as creating my own. So I joined Corvisiero Literary Agency, where I am now an Associate Agent. I spend hours each week reading query letters and manuscripts, chatting with editors, and guiding writers through the publishing process just like I once shepherded clients through the courts. But I’m happiest when I’m editing: finding ways to help a fellow writer achieve their vision.

I believe that what separates a good editor from a great editor is the ability to not only identify a story’s challenges but to offer concrete, actionable solutions, and to find opportunities for the writer to build on what’s already working well. I treat each author’s work with respect, helping them create the very best version of the story they envision. When I work with you as an editorial client, I pride myself on sensitive feedback that is attuned to the heart of your work – the part of yourself you’re sharing with the world – and that highlights the specific tools of language and craft that you can use to express it.

Remember: You are making art. You have already created art! Art is an end in and of itself. Own it, and be proud of yourself.
